Portage (Pronounced por-TAHJ) is a fiddle-driven Canadian supergroup uniting diverse traditions to create a dynamic artistic conversation. The band, composed of Anne Lederman, Alanna Jenish, Erynn Marshall, Laura Risk, and Christina Smith, weave regional threads into a brand-new musical fabric. Each artist contributes a deep knowledge and personal experience of her own tradition to the band’s compelling and unique arrangements of traditional and original tunes and songs.
With fiddles, vocals, guitar, cello, piano, feet and more, Portage’s lively and engaging performances take audiences on a musical journey up and down the Appalachian mountain range from Newfoundland to Virginia, through Quebec and Ontario, and all the way to northern Manitoba. On stage, their chemistry is as powerful as the rhythms that drive their music.
